VQGAN has been explicitly trained on millions of images to encode visual concepts into a limited library of reusable vector packets. When you give it a text prompt, VQGAN cleverly recombines these visual elements into a fresh image that matches the description.
CLIP – the Prompt Parser
CLIP stands for Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training. This AI parses text prompts and encodes them as numerical data. It compares its text encoding to the image output from VQGAN.
If CLIP sees a mismatch between prompt and image, it gives feedback to VQGAN to alter its attempt towards better alignment. This cycle continues until prompt and output sync up.
Voila—text successfully turned to image!
Diffusion – the Image Refiner
