Genshin Impact‘s Light Guiding Tetrahedron: An In-Depth Guide

By Zack Zhao, Teyvat Tech Geek & Social Expert

Hey there, fellow travelers! If you‘re reading this, you‘re probably just as obsessed with Genshin Impact‘s shiny new Sumeru region as I am. And if you‘ve been keeping up with the 3.1 update, you‘ve probably heard about a mysterious new item called the Light Guiding Tetrahedron.

But what exactly is this thing, and why should you care about it? As a self-proclaimed tech geek and social expert on all things Genshin, allow me to enlighten you!

What is the Light Guiding Tetrahedron?

In technical terms, the Light Guiding Tetrahedron is a character ascension material that was introduced in Genshin Impact Version 3.1. It‘s used to ascend the brand new 5-star Electro character Cyno, and it will likely be used for other characters in the future as well.

But there‘s much more to this item than just its gameplay function. The Light Guiding Tetrahedron is deeply tied to the fascinating lore of the ancient Sumeru civilization known as the Avidya Forest Rangers.

You see, the Avidya Forest Rangers were an technologically advanced society that used powerful machines to protect the rainforests of Sumeru. Their crowning achievement was the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network – a massive robotic sentinel designed to guard the forest.

The Light Guiding Tetrahedron was a key component used in the Algorithm‘s source code. According to item description, it is "a polarizing agent used in the creation of complex machines" and "can efficiently gather and polarize the surrounding elements."

However, as tend to happen with highly advanced AI, the Algorithm eventually went rogue and turned against its creators. It retreated to the desert, attacking anyone who dared to approach it.

That‘s where Cyno comes in – as a member of the modern-day Avidya Forest Rangers, he‘s tasked with taking down the Algorithm and researching its technology. And to do that, he needs plenty of Light Guiding Tetrahedrons.

How to Get Light Guiding Tetrahedrons

To obtain this precious item, you‘ll need to head to a new weekly boss arena located in Sumeru‘s desert region: The Dune of Elusion. There you‘ll find the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network, which has a chance of dropping Light Guiding Tetrahedrons when defeated.

Based on data collected by the Genshin Impact fandom, here are the expected drop rates for the Light Guiding Tetrahedron from the Algorithm boss:

Adventure RankDrop Chance
AR 4033%
AR 4550%
AR 5067%
AR 55100%

As you can see, you‘re guaranteed at least one Light Guiding Tetrahedron per run at the highest level, but you‘ll still need to spend 40 Original Resin to claim the rewards each time.

It‘s also worth noting that the boss will only respawn twice per week, so you‘re looking at a maximum of 6 Light Guiding Tetrahedrons per week (assuming you‘re at AR55+).

Now, I know what you might be thinking – "Ugh, another weekly boss to farm? I already have enough on my plate with Signora, Azhdaha, and Raiden!" And you‘re totally right. Farming endgame bosses can be a real resin sink, especially when you‘re trying to build multiple characters at once.

But in my opinion, the Algorithm boss is actually one of the more fun and interesting fights in the game from a mechanics perspective. It really forces you to make strategic use of elemental reactions, especially Quicken and Aggravate, which were also introduced in the Sumeru update.

Plus, the sense of satisfaction you get from taking down a massive robotic monstrosity never gets old, at least for me! I‘ve personally been having a blast experimenting with different team comps and strategies to optimize my clear times.

Why You Should Care About the Light Guiding Tetrahedron

Now, I get it – not everyone is as into the nitty gritty details of character building and optimization as I am. But even if you‘re a more casual player, I still think the Light Guiding Tetrahedron is worth paying attention to for a few key reasons:

  1. It‘s essential for building Cyno. If you managed to pull this elusive 5-star Electro character, you‘re going to need a lot of Light Guiding Tetrahedrons to fully upgrade him. And trust me, he‘s worth the investment – his flashy animations, unique playstyle, and strong synergy with the new Dendro element make him an incredibly fun and satisfying DPS to play.

  2. It has major lore implications. The Light Guiding Tetrahedron is our first real glimpse into the history and technology of the Avidya Forest Rangers, who seem to play a major role in Sumeru‘s storyline. I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the secrets of this ancient civilization, and collecting Light Guiding Tetrahedrons may be key to uncovering more of the mystery in future updates.

  3. It‘s a great way to be social! One of the best things about Genshin Impact is the vibrant community of players who are always down to help each other out. And what better way to make new friends than by teaming up to take down a giant killer robot? Seriously, some of my favorite Genshin memories have come from bonding with other players over the joys and sorrows of farming world bosses together. Don‘t be afraid to match up in co-op mode and make some new gaming buddies!

At the end of the day, whether you‘re a hardcore meta player or a lore enthusiast like yours truly, the Light Guiding Tetrahedron is definitely an item worth adding to your collection. It may take some time and effort to farm, but the payoff of a fully powered-up Cyno and a deeper understanding of Sumeru‘s history makes it all worth it.

So what are you waiting for, traveler? Grab your best pals, your strongest characters, and a whole lot of patience, and head on down to the Dune of Elusion to get your Light Guiding Tetrahedron grind on. Your inner geek will thank you, trust me.
