As an avid gamer and Disney fan, I was thrilled when Disney Dreamlight Valley was released. This life simulation game allows you to customize your own character and interact with beloved Disney and Pixar characters while restoring the magic to the valley.
After spending countless hours planting crops, fishing, mining, cooking, and questing in the valley, I‘ve discovered some extremely helpful tips and tricks. Whether you just started playing or have been questing for a while, this guide will provide useful advice to enhance your Dreamlight Valley experience.
Use the Overeating Mechanic to Get an Energy Boost
When the energy gauge is full, you can continue eating to fill up extra golden energy bars. Overeating provides a temporary speed and stamina boost, enabling you to sprint around and complete more tasks before your energy depletes again.
Stuff yourself with grilled fish or fruit salads made with high-energy ingredients like apples and blueberries. These easy meals fill up the gauge quickly so you can take advantage of the overeating perk.
Upgrade Scrooge McDuck‘s Store for New Items
Unlike slow shop upgrades in Animal Crossing, Scrooge‘s shop upgrades unlock instantly in Dreamlight Valley. I recommend saving up and purchasing the upgrades right away rather than waiting. The upgraded stores provide new furniture, clothing items, and blueprints for sale.
Mine and Fish for a Fast Income
Bells and money trees aren’t around to make quick cash in the valley. Instead, mining and fishing are efficient money-making methods. Craft loads of pickaxes and fishing rods and sell the materials to Goofy‘s Stall or use them to complete villager requests for rewards.
Prioritize mining rare gems over standard materials since they offer the highest selling prices. And catch as many rare fish from red bubble spots as possible.
Unlock Foxes, Raccoons, Turtles, and Birds as Animal Companions
The valley creatures add some extra magic when they become your loyal companions. Each has favorite foods that must be gifted before you can adopt them.
Check the menu critter guide to discover their preferred treats. I constantly carry carrots, apples, wheat, and fish on hand to befriend new animals I encounter while exploring.
Explore Neighbors‘ Homes For Goodies and Recipes
It might feel intrusive to peek inside Mickey Mouse’s house, but surprises await curious explorers. Check back periodically, as new decorative items and recipes tend to spawn.
While it’s unclear if building friendships leads to more house rewards, it doesn’t hurt to regularly revisit your friendly neighbors!
Recharge Energy at Home
The energy system functions similarly to other simulation games. Activities become restricted as it depletes, but you won’t collapse. Quickly restore energy by eating a snack or instantly refill it by returning home.
Though heading home is faster, grabbing a bite is more convenient when you‘re out exploring the valley and don’t want to backtrack.
Craft and Consume Meals That Provide an Energy Boost
Managing your energy is crucial for making consistent progress in Dreamlight Valley. While fruits and veggies offer small boosts, learning recipes is vital for sustainable energy.
Complete Remy‘s Ratatouille missions to obtain new recipes. Prioritize cooking meals that provide bonus stamina, indicated by filling the gold energy gauge. Always carry some on adventures!
Reserve Resources Instead of Selling Them
It’s tempting to sell excess materials, but having a stockpile saves time later. Keep at least 10 of each resource since various valley tasks require resources like wood and stone for crafting.
The same advice applies to rare collectibles. While pennies spawn infinitely, items like crystals are harder to obtain, so reserve them unless you desperately need quick funds.
Embark on Adventures With a Companion
Journeying with a loyal valley resident makes questing more rewarding. Recruited companions provide bonuses like foraging, mining, fishing, etc., allowing you to gather more resources simultaneously.
If possible, befriend multiple characters with the same talent to optimize your bonus. For instance, having several fishing companions nets way more fish than adventuring solo!
Organize Your Inventory to Maximize Space
With a small starting backpack, inventory management is crucial, especially when accessing other realms. Consider purchasing the first backpack upgrade which provides additional space for only 7,000 star coins.
Also, avoid hoarding flowers since they take up lots of room. And deposit unneeded items in storage chests placed in your house or around the valley.
Increase Friendship With Critters by Feeding Treats
You can feed the wild valley animals once per day. Check the menu guide to learn their preferred foods, then supply requested treats to build friendship. Gift consistently to adopt them as devoted companions.
Remember to avoid giving multiple treats in one day, as you’ll have to wait until the next day before feeding again if you provide the wrong food. But gift correctly over time to gain a loyal furry or feathered friend.
Complete Friendship Activities to Earn Rewards
Hanging out with fellow town members strengthens relationships and provides rewards. Chat with characters regularly and fulfill their gift wishlist requests. This builds friendship EXP which unlocks special crafting recipes and blueprints.
Also, invite friends along on mining/fishing/foraging adventures. Having company makes the grind more enjoyable while efficiently gathering more resources and materials.
Utilize the Fast Travel System to Save Time
Despite the small game map, locations feel distant without fast travel. Thankfully, you can activate the handy well transport system early on to zip around rapidly.
After completing Merlin’s “Friendship is Everything” quest, Scrooge will construct transport wells in other areas for a price. But the convenience makes fast travel a priority upgrade.
Craft and Sell Valuable Items
Crafting is pivotal for progression and profits. Use collected resources to construct items like clothing or furniture for village requests or to sell for big profits.
For example, craft loads of fishing poles or pickaxes to fill Goofy’s stall orders. And transform valuable gems into jewelry to earn over 1,000 star coins apiece. Investing materials into crafted goods is tremendously rewarding long-term.
Expand Your Backpack Inventory ASAP
Upgrading carrying capacity should be top priority. The initial backpack fits little, forcing you to deposit items often. Spend 5,000 coins on the first expansion to double space so you can gather and sell more before emptying your pack.
While the upgraded backpacks are pricey, the inventory increase allows you to carry way more materials and valuables, making the investment well worth the star coin cost.
Create and Customize Clothing
Dreamlight Valley offers fun wardrobe customization. Craft clothing materials like fabric and thread using spinning wheels to fashion cute outfits. Also, unlock motif patterns by befriending valley residents then incorporate them into your fashion designs.
Mix and match colors and motifs to create signature looks. And customize character hairstyles, makeup, and accessories through the dresser for full control over your appearance.
Prioritize Fishing Spots With Bubbles
Fishing is enjoyable and profitable. Cooked fish refills energy, and raw fish sell well. Target spots with red or blue bubbles to catch rare variants for big profits. Also, check back frequently as fishing holes replenish.
Mine Rare Gems Over Standard Materials
The mines offer a consistent source of useful resources. Target black mineral deposits on the edges of clearings to uncover valuable gems.
Prioritize collecting gems over standard stone since they provide exponentially more value. Either craft gems into jewelry to sell or fulfill village requests with these rare materials. Just be sure to keep some in reserve for crafting tools.
Schedule Friends for Multiplayer Adventures
Journeying with real-life gamer pals makes questing way more exciting. Schedule visits in advance for efficient cooperation since randomized matchmaking players may have other plans.
Coordinate to tackle goals requiring multiple people like launching large crafting projects or participating in team battles. Knock out pesky challenges quicker while enjoying quality friend time.
Complete All Available Daily Goals to Earn Rewards
Daily goals provide consistent dreamlight to unlock new zones and content. The rotating challenges involve simple tasks like catching fish or watering plants.
While the individual rewards seem minor, regularly completing daily goals rewards a couple hundred dreamlight which adds up over time. Make checking the goals part of your daily routine.
